Road to Rebellion: Kearney’s Jig Says Just Don’t be a Dick.

Bristol’s Kearney’s Jig took some time out with The Punk Lounge to share their feelings on Rebellion, who they would love to see, and the best cure for a hangover.

Is this your first time playing Rebellion? If not, when / how many times have you played before?

First time playing this year for us in KJ. We’ve all been up to Rebellion before though as punters like (Will our drummer played last year in his old band UK’s Lowest) but as a whole it’ll be the first year we grace the stage in the Winter Gardens.

What tips for other musicians do you have on applying to play Rebellion?

Tips for playing… networking is key. Always stick around and watch and support every band on the same line up as you (obviously if possible like.. Don’t expect everyone to see every band on a festival..) then yeah, chatting to other bands and having a laugh with them is always good too. Also, going to other local gigs is up there – support all the bands you can! Besides that, getting drunk and blagging your way on also kind of works….

What is your all time favourite Rebellion performance/moment? Who/what is your dream Rebellion performance?

All time favourite is a tough one.. For me, there are loads of amazing memorable moments from the festival.. From seeing Pizzatramp tear up the intro stage last year to drinking to much and passing out during Sham 69’s set.. The whole festival is a great experience. You can go from sitting down the beach with a bottle of rum in the morning to seeing your all time favourite bands play incredible sets. One band I’m partically looking forward to this year is Lagwagon… been a few years since I’ve seen them but they always know how to put on an amazing show (even if I gotta last ‘till 1AM!).
Another is definitely D.R.I. (if I’m honest, I didn’t realise they were still going ‘till they got announced).

Dream performance is by far The Sex Pistols… I doubt it’ll ever happen but we can dream, eh? On a slightly more likely note, the dream is the likes of NOFX, Social Distortion, Agnostic Front, Suicidal Tendencies etc etc (or Kearney’s Jig playing again? That might be just a dream mind….. Who knows?)

What is a must have thing (what do you always bring that you cannot leave home without?) for Rebellion?

Must have thing… cheap beer and probably some shoes? There isn’t really a lot you need.. Just a ticket to get in and to not be a dick so everyone can enjoy themselves!

Best hangover cure? (If you are sober, what beverage or food keeps you going for Rebellion?)

Best hangover cure is to keep drinking and deal with it another day… That or a gurt ‘spoons breakfast and a few paracetamol.

What song can the audience NOT miss out on seeing you play?

One song they don’t wanna miss out on… probably our smash one-hit-wonder (complete with Bon Jovi style key change) Red Stripe… who doesn’t love a sing along song about cheap Jamaican larger?  No one.

That and we may chuck In a cover or two cause the 7 people watching us will need something to keep them alive.

What day, time and stage are you performing?

Saturday nice ‘n’ early at 1:15pm on the introducing stage… It’s right by the front door so just come on over before wondering aimlessly buying stuff you probably don’t need.

What are you currently working on or currently promoting?

We recorded some shit a few months back, that’ll be for sale in the old skool CD format or for online download for all you trendy kids out there.. We aren’t cool/rich enough to put it out on vinyl (yet?) so you’ll have to stick with that for now..

We’ve also got a bunch of T-Shirt we’ll be flogging off fairly cheap as we’re not capitalist bastards.

What is the best thing for you about Rebellion?

The best thing for me about Rebellion is, well, everything really! It’s sort of like a dream… or a holiday but to a not warm country. Basically, when else can you not work for a week, drink beer for breakfast and see your favourite bands with a group of mates? You can’t, that’s what. The rest of the year we’re all stuck in work dreaming for some time off the around comes August, we jump in the car, drive all fucking day and arrive in a place where everyone is very like minded and usually as fucked up as you are!

What do you think could be improved for yourRebellion experience?

There isn’t a lot they could improve on really.. Maybe less stage clashes but that can’t really be helped… a bigger selection of beers wouldn’t go a miss though, only so much Fosters and Strongbow anyone can drink!

Only thing we’d like to add is that we hope we see all you beautiful people at the intro stage for us on the Saturday afternoon at 1:15pm!

Cheers for asking us to be a part of this.

Lots of love.
